GOING BACK IN TIME

Our History

Thirty years ago two major corporations began buying many locally-owned funeral homes. Gene Adams, a trusted funeral director for over 40 years, was troubled that no locally owned facility would exist in our area, so he began to pursue possible alternatives. After discussing these concerns with his friend, Ron Mercer, who had recently taken early retirement after 26 years as a Xerox executive, a partnership was forged and Gene Adams Funeral Service was born. Their purpose was to establish a business based on the Christian principles that directed both their lives. While Ron knew little about the funeral industry, he knew his career in marketing, business strategy and customer service would be a valuable asset.

Gene Adams Funeral Service quickly built a reputation for providing families with personalized services priced below the national chains. These traditions are continued today in our willingness to help each family design a service that expresses the significance and character of the life they celebrate. Our goal is to enable every family to honor their loved ones with the respect and recognition they deserve.

Gene and Ron were led throughout the years to add staff that shared their sense of responsibility to minister to the community. We believe God has prospered the business as a result of those commitments to serve Him by serving the ones He gives us.

In 1997, health concerns dictated retirement for Gene and Dena. Ron Mercer and his family became the sole owners of the business and the name was changed to Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. The Adams name was left in as a reminder of the legacy we carry as we continue to think forward, being on the cutting edge of how funerals are performed and families are served.

That desire was the driving force behind our remodel in 2005, staying ahead of the current state of the industry. Our facilities enable us to provide the technical expertise that flows in the background of the aesthetics, comfort, and peacefulness of our facility. Combined with a genuinely caring staff, ready to provide everything from prearrangement to grief counseling, you understand our motto: Before, during, and after. We understand the language of comfort.
