Wynona (Nona) Snowbarger Burkhart, 79, passed away on April 14, 2011, in Oklahoma City. Nona was a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, Academy of Senior Professionals at Southern Nazarene University (ASP), and the Association of Retired Ministers and Missionaries (ARMM). She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Leona Snowbarger, and her brother, Dr. Marvin Snowbarger. Nona was born on a farm near Big Bow, Kansas, on January 14, 1932. In 1950, she began college, majoring in Music Education at Bethany-Peniel Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University), where she met and married Rev. Park D. Burkhart, August 26, 1952. In 1957, after receiving his AB and Th.B degrees, Park and Wynona went into full-time ministry in Nazarene Churches at Humboldt, NE, Scottsbluff, NE, Carlsbad, NM, Albuquerque, NM, Denver, CO, Gainesville, FL, Fort Lauderdale, FL and Chanute, KS. Wynona worked as secretary to the Registrar while her husband was finishing college. During that time, she continued studying piano. She gave piano lessons for 46 years, played piano and organ during her husbands pastoral ministry, and served as district Nazarene missionary president on the North Florida and Southern Florida districts. Park and Wynona shared 43 years of pastoral ministry together. In 2000, they retired and moved to Bethany, OK, where Wynona served as pianist for both the ASP and ARMM organizations. She also served as pianist and/or organist at the Superbia Retirement Chapel twice a month. Her greatest joy was to serve her Lord in music ministry and as pastors wife. Wynona is survived by her husband, Park, of Bethany; her daughters, Dee Ann Burkhart of Oklahoma City, Rena Nance of Houston, TX, Aloha Lee Post of Branson, MO; son, Barry Burkhart of Frisco, TX; as well as 6 grandchildren, Adam Strack, Jerad Burkhart, Courtney Henson, J.D. Nance, Cade and Keaton Post; and 3 great-grandchildren, Austin Frost, David Strack and Isabelle Burkhart. Wynona is also survived by sisters, Fern Lewis of Gladstone, MO, and Alice Tallent of Dodge City, KS; brothers, David Snowbarger of Concordia, KS, Daniel Snowbarger of Olathe, KS, and step-brother, David Miller of Bradenton, FL; as well as countless friends and family. Memorial services will be held at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, Saturday, April 16 at 2:00pm.
