Wilma Woodrum (McGuire) McClain was born December 21, 1929 in Floydada, TX to William Weaver and Belva Mae (Dickie) McGuire. She grew up on a farm in the Texas Panhandle, the youngest of 9 children. She knew how to work hard. All the family knew the tedious chore of picking cotton to make ends meet. For most of her education, Wilma attended a one-room schoolhouse. She graduated from high school in Plainview, TX in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, Olen McClain, on December 19, 1948. Her family, as well as Olens family, were members of the Plainview Nazarene Church. In 1953, Wilma gave birth to her only son, Lewis. Her husband, Olen had been drafted and was serving in the Korean War at the same time. Olen wasnt able to see Lewis until he was 6 months old. Their family of 3 moved to Bethany, OK where Wilma and Olen planned to attend Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University). Wilma had to drop out in order to work while Olen continued his studies. During Olens college years, he and Wilma managed the Twilight Motel in Bethany. The motel was situated on Route 66 which was a thoroughfare for many going out west to California. Following Olens graduation from BNC, Wilma found a job as clerk and manager for the DeVille Up-To-Date Cleaners on 23rd & Council. She was a dependable and valuable employee. In later years, while still working at the cleaners, she bought commercial equipment and began an upholstery business out of her home. Wilma could make or do anything with her hands. She became a student of exercise and good eating habits, reading all she could to learn how to be healthy. She faithfully walked about 3 miles every day, sometimes on her treadmill at home or in the neighborhood. She wore out 3 treadmills. When her grandchildren (Curtis and Aubree) came along, Wilma spent most of her free time with them. She was a very loving grandmother, totally devoted to them. She played any kind of game they wanted, watched any TV show they watched and fed them any food they wanted. She spoiled them to the extreme, for which they are eternally grateful! Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 70 years, Olen; and siblings, Lois, Lewis, Flo, Helen, Wilson, Orville and Elizabeth. She is survived by one brother, Jared of Big Springs, TX. She is also survived by her son, Lewis McClain and wife, Rita; grandson, Curtis (Sweet C) McClain; granddaughter, Aubree and husband, Josh McKamie; and great-grandchildren, Ronan and Darby McKamie.
