William "Bill" Haywood Jones returned home at the age of 99 on February 4, 2026 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born on January 20, 1927 to Paul Adair Jones and Demily Stanley Jones in Cooper, TX. Bill worked in the telecommunications and computer industry as an electrical engineer. He began his career with GE Research Labs in New York and Oklahoma City. He made the Costas Loop work, invented over-the-horizon radar, and developed several pieces of hardware for the emerging computer industry in Silicon Valley. He retired from Konica, where he was hired to digitize pictures for the film industry. Bill was a proud veteran of the Army during and just after World War II, serving as a drill sergeant and head of the radio station in Korea. He enjoyed flying his airplanes, growing roses, and driving sports cars.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nadean Pittman Jones, and his daughter, Bonnie Burtcher. He is survived by his daughter, M. Angela (Billy) Nievar; grandchildren, Bill (Lora) Nievar, Margaret (Jesse) Campbell, and Robert (Riley) Nievar; and 8 great-grandchildren. Viewing at Mercer-Adams will be Friday, 9am-8pm with family present from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 21, 10:00 am, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5020 NW 63rd Street, Oklahoma City.
