William G. Evans was born Aug. 21st, 1928 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma to George W. and Winifred Mae Evans. He grew up in Oklahoma City, graduated from Classen High School and went on to marry his high school sweetheart Marjorie Nelson in 1950. They had two children Paul W. Evans of Galveston, TX and Gretchen A. Evans of Konawa, OK. Bill was also blessed with six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He earned a B.A. in History and a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma and a Master's in Banking from the University of Wisconsin. He began his career at the Oklahoma Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank System in 1954 and retired as Vice President and branch manager. He also served 12 years on the Oklahoma City Planning Commission. Bill was awarded Oklahoma's first Medal of Freedom for his long and devoted 38 years of service to the 45th Infantry Division. He served as the State Command Sgt. Major from 1980-1988. He was also executive director of the 45th Infantry Division Museum. He was loved and revered for his patience, leadership and fairness. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many associates. Viewing will be Mon. June 18 from 12:00-9:00pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be held Tues. June 19, 2012 at 11:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK with interment to follow at Kingfisher Cemetery, Kingfisher, OK.
