William Montgomery Dorough, Jr., 85, went home to be with His Lord Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Bill was born May 12, 1924 on a farm near Bowie, TX, to Roxie (Wallace) Dorough and William M. Dorough. Bill was converted September 13, 1937, in a revival service he attended with neighbors. He sensed Gods calling him into ministry when an evangelistic band of young people from Bethany Peniel College visited the Bowie church the summer of 1941 and convinced him to enroll there that fall. He attended BPC (now Southern Nazarene Univerity) receiving a theology degree in May 1945. He met Velma King at BPC and they married May 13, 1945 and immediately moved to their first pastoral assignment in Bryan, TX. They celebrated 60 years of marriage May 13, 2005, before her homegoing September 24, 2005. Bill was in full time ministry 53 years, pastoring churches in Bryan, Pasadena, Amarillo, Big Spring, Wichita Falls, Lubbock, Grand Prairie and North Dallas. He retired after 9 years of full time evangelism and moved to Bethany, OK December, 1997, where he has been an active member of Western Oaks.
Bill is predeceased by Velma, his wife of 60 years; his parents; sisters Mell Searle, Audra Yantis, and brother Paul. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Gary Lehman, Bethany, OK and Sharon and Jim Wilkins, Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Laura and Derek Triggs, Baytown, TX and David Lehman, Singapore; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah and Caleb Triggs.
On September 2, 2006, Bill married Katherine Waller. The Dorough and Waller families had been friends since the 1960s in Big Spring, TX. They enjoyed 3 wonderful years together, dividing time between Bethany, OK and Pueblo West, CO. Bill is also survived by his wife, Katherine; her two sons and their wives, Ron and Zoey Waller, Falcon, CO; Lynn and LuAnn Waller, Lorena, TX; and daughter Jenifer Waller, Denver, CO; Katherines grandchildren Michael Waller now serving our country in Afghanistan; Bobby Waller, Lorena, TX; Spencer and Jordan Waller of Falcon, CO; and Joey Ditch and Travis Saltzman of Denver, CO. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends from churches in which he ministered through the years.
Bills ministry has been marked by evangelistic preaching, compassion for people and a zeal for life. He was a true shepherd to those he pastored. His continuous contact and fellowship with people, his commitment to prayer and fasting for revival, his community involvement through Hospice visitation all demonstrate Gods call upon his heart and helped bring many to a point of decision about their salvation. Little is Much When God is In It is a recurring theme in the song of his life. Bills Sermon in Song became a favorite of congregations as he held revivals. Bill served as District youth president; served on the District Advisory Board and SNU Board of Trustees for both the West Texas and Dallas Districts. He also served on the Dallas District Missions council for 9 years. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for a World Mission project. Checks should be sent to Western Oaks Nazarene Church, 7901 NW 16th, Oklahoma City, OK 73127. Services are Nov. 3, at 10 am at Western Oaks Nazarene.
