William "Bill" Roger
Thompson
Jan 15, 1953 — Sep 16, 2024
William "Bill" Roger Thompson, 71, beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend, passed away September 16, 2024 at his home in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born January 15, 1953 in Atlanta, Georgia to Henry and Willie "Nell" (Whitmire) Thompson.
Bill most recently enjoyed a career in law enforcement, serving with the Sheriff's Department in Graham County, Kansas. He had many talents and hobbies, but the most important to him was music. He played trombone throughout his youth, as well as guitar. He was a proud member of several bands throughout the years and loved performing with them.
Bill was an Eagle Scout and had hoped to become involved with the local Boy Scout troop again as a troop leader and mentor. He had perfected the art of the "dad joke" and was a wonderful storyteller. He had knowledge of a wide variety of things and was very resourceful and creative when coming up with solutions to issues that would arise in life, mechanically, or otherwise. Bill loved to share that knowledge, too.
He loved to ride his motorcycle with his wife and friends, and was an active member of Abate of Kansas and Kentucky Motorcycle Association, advocating for motorcyclists' rights in the communities he lived. He volunteered for a Boston Terrier Rescue for several years with his wife Lark, fostering and rehabilitating Boston Terriers and helping find them forever homes.
Bill was a very positive and fun-loving person, and could almost always find the silver lining in any situation. He loved his family and friends fiercely and deeply, often being a rock and confidante to his loved ones.
Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry and Willie "Nell" (Whitmire) Thompson; wife, Lark Thompson; brother-in-law Ralph Hunter, and his eldest sister, Melinda Thompson.
He is survived by his daughter, Krystina Thompson Elam and spouse Alex Elam; sisters, Penny (Thompson) Hunter, Deborah (Thompson) Peavy and spouse Ricky Peavy; nieces, Kim (Hunter) Barber and spouse Todd Barber, Kelly Hunter and fiancé, Bruce Moore; and several pets who will miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee (https://www.bostonterriertn.org/) or to the animal rescue charity of your choice.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 18 at 11:00am in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. Please feel free to dress casually as a way of honoring Bill.
