William "Bill"
Rosenthal
Apr 5, 1941 — Nov 24, 2023
William "Bill" Rosenthal of Bethany, OK joined his Heavenly Father on November 24, 2023. He was born to Freeman and Virgie Rosenthal on April 5th, 1941 in Muskogee, OK.
Bill loved sharing stories about his youth in Wagoner, OK, telling anyone who'd listen how it "really was just like Happy Days." Both a lover of tradition and someone willing to occasionally break the mold, a favorite story of his children was that while his peers rode horses to school, young "Billy" rode the family cow. Undoubtedly one of the cool kids, Bill described himself as "the Fonz" of his friend group.
Bill graduated Wagoner High School and joined the Army in 1959, his patriotism driving him to serve his country as a Military Police Officer. While his youthful aspiration had been to be a helicopter pilot, life steered him in a different direction. This new path kept him stateside, close to home, allowing him to build the family he came to cherish so much.
In 1961, his marriage to his first love, Carolyn Spriggs, gave him two children, Scott and Kelly, but unbeknownst to Bill, his family was only half complete. It was during this time that Bill flourished in a 20-year career with the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, first as a Driver's Examiner. It was in this career that he administered tens of thousands of driving exams. He was even part of the initiative to bring photo IDs to the state in his ultimate role as the state's Assistant Director of Driver's License Services.
When his children were grown and his first marriage had ended, Bill met his second love, Carolyn McAden Tipton, and her two daughters, Glenna and Susan. Bill and Carolyn were a perfect match, both welcoming with caring hearts, and both ready to forge a new path into the second half of their adult lives. They were an active and adventurous couple, their travels spanning across 42 states on the back of Bill's Yamaha Venture.
As they grew together in their faith and their love, so too, did their family grow. There was never a discussion of "mine" or "yours" in the Rosenthal household, as they were all just Family. And as that family grew, they kept closer to home so they could relish their roles as grandparents. Bill made sure to never miss a game, a school play, a barrel race, a graduation, or a holiday. His grandchildren were his world, and he took any opportunity to make them feel special - including the invention of the "Pumpkin Man," Bill's annual pledge to ensure the fall season started with joy, playfulness, and a little bit of magic.
Bill believed in honesty, patriotism, Christ, tradition, and fairness - but most of all, he believed in family. Even as his health waned, Bill's family was at the forefront of his mind. From his hospital bed, he shared, "Being sick really shows you your status in a family, and I don't know what I've done to deserve to have so many people love me. I just feel so loved."
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Freeman and Virgie Rosenthal; and sister, Jane Lawhorn.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn McAden Rosenthal; brother, Albert and Doris Rosenthal; children, Scott and Margie Rosenthal, Kelly and Bill Griffin, Glenna and Kris Kaiser, and Susan and Tre Mason; grandchildren, Brittany and Duane Guthery, Gavin and Natalie Griffin, Kayley and Stephen Saunders, Kenzie Norman, Steele Mason, and Lawson Mason; and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Wyatt, and Ramzi Guthery, Annaleigh Griffin and Gentry Norman.
