Willa Marie (Pieper) Smith passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Baptist Village (Lackey Manor), Oklahoma City. She was born January 3, 1931, in Fremont, Nebraska, to parents Paul and Esther (Meierhenry) Pieper.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rupert (November 19, 2017), one sister (Donna), and one brother (Dick). She is survived by children Sharon Hankins and Stephen Smith, both of Oklahoma City, and grandchildren Katie (Hankins) King and husband Greg of Bethany, OK; Kara Hankins of Nashville, TN; Braden Smith and Riley Smith, both of Oklahoma City, as well a host of nieces and nephews.
Willa attended nursing school in Colorado and graduated as an RN. She went on to work in Labor and Delivery, college nursing at Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University), and also in mental health at the Oklahoma County Crisis Intervention Center. Of those, she most loved serving students and faculty as the campus nurse at BNC. There she was well-loved, and she developed lifelong friendships.
Willa enjoyed traveling with her husband Rupert to Alaska to fish, to the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Switzerland for business, and to Italy with Stephen for a high school mission trip. Willa was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed the Bethel Bible Study training here and in Madison, WI. She was also a local Bible study group leader at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, where she and her family were members.
Willa will be remembered most for her quick smile, her loving kindness to those she met, and most of all for her deep deep love for her family. She loved us, she served us, and she prayed for us so very often.
Services will be Saturday, April 20, 11:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel.
