Obituary

Wilhelm Wystemp, Willie, daddy, dad, Opa, passed away January 11, 2012, after a brief illness. Willie was born April 3, 1929 in Knurow Poland. He was the youngest of eight children, born to Franziska and Theador Wystemp. Willie met the love of his life when he was 13 years old, Lina Kuhn. They were married on Feb. 6, 1945. They have been by each others side ever since. Their life together was a true love story. Surviving Nazi Germany in WWII, being separated for a time, only to be reunited with the help of a Red Cross nurse and immigrating to the United States in 1953 with their son, Willfried, who was born on November 5, 1946. Willie was a proud father to Willfried who excelled in athletics. He was a state champion wrestler at John Marshall High School in the 1960s and went on to play football at OU. After graduating from OU, Willfried joined the Army and served proudly in Vietnam. Willfried preceded Willie in death. Willie was also proud of his daughter, Julie Wystemp Bradbury, who grew up in north OKC, graduated high school from Putnam City North, and acquired her teaching degree from OU. Willie loved to be OPA to his grandsons, Jake and Wyatt. He taught them how to be strong and honorable young men. He was the best person for the job since he was the epitome of these characteristics. He would pitch acorns to Jake when he was 6 and Jake would hit them with a broom handle. He never missed a little league baseball or soccer game. Even the boys on his teams would call Willie, Opa. He loved to be with Wyatt as well, always reading to him and teaching him how to fix something. Wyatt would always ask Opa, What is this or how does that work. He always had time for them and nothing was ever too much. Willie was the hardest working man - just ask anyone who knew him. If it needed fixing he would fix it. He worked his entire life. After moving to Oklahoma, he worked several jobs until he found his career at Corken International. Willie went to work there in 1954 and retired in 1997 after 43 years of faithful service. He was The Man at Corken, developing numerous patents. The company was sold twice but Willie was the constant; he had to stay as part of the sale. Willie had no formal education, but what he did have was a strong desire to be successful and to never stop learning. While at Corken, he was responsible for upgrading machinery to make the company more efficient. He had the confidence of his bosses to buy million dollar equipment without approval from them. Willie, write the check! they would say to him. Willie was the smartest, strongest, loving and most honorable man I ever knew. Anyone who ever met him instantly became a better person just for knowing him. Willie is survived by his beautiful wife of 65 years, Lina; his daughter, Julie Wystemp Bradbury and son-in-law, David Bradbury; his grandsons, Jake and Wyatt Bradbury; and granddaughter, Stephanie Burris Matthews. There will be a private service for close friends and family Saturday, January 14, 3:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Physicians Choice Hospice of Oklahoma. Willie, you have taught us all how to live and how to treat others. You are the rock of our family, you guided us and loved us with your whole heart. We love you always.
