Obituary

Wilfred Herbert Listen was born on Feb. 22, 1924 in Jones, OK and went to be with the Jesus on Feb. 15, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie; daughter Brenda Sue Young and her husband Rick; grandchildren Rick Jr. and Pam Young, Athena and Paul DeSpain, Amy and Brent Ross; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Margie Millican, Charles Listen, Bob Listen and Marilyn Lassiter. Wilfred served in the army during WWII and was awarded the bronze star after being a POW in Germany for 18 months. He met Elsie while she was an elevator operator at the First National Bank. They married and started operating a business in Spencer, OK where he also worked in the post office and was appointed postmaster. Later, he would become Mayor of Spencer and open a real estate company after retiring from the post office. He enjoyed being a father to Brenda, helping her get involved with rodeo, rainbows, and running a food pantry. He was also very involved with his grandchildren, attending many of their activities, taking them fishing and helping them any way he could. He will truly be missed. Viewing will be Thursday 9am-9pm with the family receiving guests from 5-7pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Fri., Feb. 19, 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel with entombment in Arlington Cemetery, Midwest City, OK.
