Obituary

Wilda Lee (Self) Vestal of Oklahoma City was born on October 18, 1925 in Waldron, Arkansas to Tom and Eunice Self and she died on September 25, 2014. She met and married Richard Vestal in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary! She spent 54 years in Dallas, TX and joyfully served the Lord in many ways at her beloved Dallas First Nazarene Church. She made many special life-long friends theremany who she joins now in heaven. She was a dedicated Christian and loved serving otherswhether it was working at VBS, being a homeroom mom, taking her renowned chocolate pie and meals to the sick or visiting shut-insshe was always willing. She loved her family and taking care of them. Her early career as a seamstress led to a lifelong love of sewing. Her three daughters grew up wearing clothes lovingly made by their motherand later she made three sets of bridesmaid's dresses and bridal gowns. Wilda's home was full of lovely draperies, pillows, and tablecloths that she made. Christmas was a special time for Wilda. She decorated her home with enthusiasm and wrapped each package lovingly and with a creative flair. In 2003, Wilda and Richard moved to Oklahoma City to be near their daughters. Both her homes in Dallas and Oklahoma City were surrounded with beautiful flowersgardening was one of Wilda's favorite pastimes. She also spent many hours crocheting afghans as gifts for family members and newborns, and she donated hundreds of crocheted hats to the Baptist hospital newborn unit. Wilda was a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by her husband, Richard Vestal, and their three daughters: Susan (Terry) Potter of Yukon, OK, Pat (Jerry) Bley of Yukon, OK, and Pam McRae of Oklahoma City, OK. Mimi is survived by seven grandchildren: Benjamin (Jenny) Potter of Moore, OK, Matthew Potter of Oklahoma City, Julie (Michael) Shutley of Frisco, TX, Jordan (Adrienne) Bley of Oak Park, IL, Trisha (Scott) Brecheen of Oklahoma City, Megan McRae of Oklahoma City and Connor McRae of Oklahoma City. Six great-grandchildren (Silas, George and Van Potter and Addison, Audrey, and Avery Shutley) have been the delight of her life these past six years. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Vester Self and Bob Self and two infant sisters. Special thanks to Dr. Debra Riggs for her wonderful, loving care over the years. Viewing will be Sunday, 11am-9pm, with family present from 2-4pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany First Nazarene Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wilda's memory to Operation Christmas Child at Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
