Obituary

Wilda Ilene Eaton was born July 8, 1930, in her parents home 12 miles out of Palco, Kansas, the youngest child of Virgil Frank Eaton and Nellie Irene (Noah) Eaton. She attended grade school in the country and boarded in town in private homes for part of her high school years due to unreliable roads in bad weather. Wilda accepted Christ as her savior as a young girl. She endeavored to grow in her faith and Bible insight throughout her life. She graduated from Palco High School in 1948. After high school, she taught in a one room schoolhouse that had 8 students in 5 grades. She lived with the family of one of her students. Her earnings were invested in cattle by her father to fund her college education at Bethany Peniel College in Bethany, OK. She began studying in the fall of 1949. In the summer of 1951, she met a young man from Missouri named Gayland Aubrey. He was going to be a freshman at Bethany Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University). She was a junior. They were married on August 23, 1952, at Canaan Chapel Church of the Nazarene in Palco, KS. She completed her B.S. in Elementary Education from BPC in 1953. Wilda began her career in 1954 and retired from teaching in 1993. These years also included raising 3 children and supporting Gaylands pastoral assignments. She served as a substitute teacher until age 85. As a pastors wife, she was privileged along with her family to live in Hennessey, OK, Durango, CO, Brighton, CO, Independence, MO, Meade, KS, Great Bend, KS, and Lamar, CO. She and Gayland adventured around CO in an RV for 12 years supply pastoring, much to their delight as they loved and were loved by many parishioners. Her interests and passions included playing the piano, childrens ministry, singing, scrapbooking and cardmaking, music, meeting people, mountain RV-ing, grandchildren, Kuzins Kamps, pioneer history and antiques. She was known for her wit and humorous "zingers." Wilda took her last breath on September 30, 2023. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Gayland; children Gayla Rathbun (Steve) of Wichita, KS; Elizabeth Falkner (Burt) of Bethany, OK; C. Mark Aubrey (Loire), Guymon, OK; 12 grandchildren, Eric Falkner, Clay Falkner (Jessica), Brad Falkner, Nicholas Rathbun (Kimberly), Bethany Hammons (Jeff), Aubrey Falkner, Tanner Aubrey (Leslie), Jadyn Urbina (David), Natalie Macy (Josh), Bryton Aubrey, Joel Rathbun, Annie Aubrey; 15 great-grandchildren, Sydney Falkner, Mia and Lincoln Falkner, Kalee Banta, Wyatt and Weston Rathbun, Bridger and Pruitt Hammons, Amber Aubrey, Emi, Audra, Noelle and Gabriel Urbina, Rowland and Bennett Macy; sister-in-law, Mary Towns Eaton; and numerous loved nieces and nephews.
