Wilbur Lee Woody Woodside, Sr. was born to Harvey Lloyd Woodside and Grace Dane (Adair) Woodside on January 4, 1923 in Oklahoma City. He died peacefully February 9, 2010 at Bellevue Health & Rehabilitation. Wilbur joined Penn Avenue Christian Church as a boy and was a member until the church dissolved several years ago.
Wilbur attended Hawthorne Elementary School, Taft Junior High, and graduated from Classen High School in 1941. His favorite class was Band where he played the cornet. During WWII, he worked for the Post Engineer at Will Rogers Field in support of the war effort.
Wilbur met the love of his life, Diamond Queen of Carnegie, OK in the summer of 1945 and married her October 12th of that year. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage until death parted them in 1997.
Wilbur went to work for Harter Concrete Products in 1949 and worked there as a construction estimator and salesman until he retired in 1977. He was a member and officer in the Professional Construction Estimators Association during that time.
Wilbur ran Queen Furniture in Carnegie, Oklahoma, founded by Diamonds father Lee Queen, for five years from 1977 to 1982. Wilbur and Diamond owned rental property and Wilbur spent his time following retirement working on and managing their properties. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and flying his own airplane.
Wilburs older sister, Wanda Holliday died five years ago. He is survived by his younger sister, Joanne Hartsell of Weatherford, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his two sons, Wilbur Lee Woodside, Jr. and his wife Myra of Oklahoma City, and Alan Lloyd Woodside and his wife Fran of Tulsa. Wilbur has three grandchildren, Heather Ann Woodside Shelton, Brett Alan Woodside, and Jared Lee Woodside. He has six great-grandchildren in Tulsa.
The family would like to thank everyone at Bellevue for the wonderful care they provided Wilbur during the last two years of his life. We also thank Mercy Hospice for making him comfortable during his final days.
A celebration of Wilburs life will be held at the Mercer-Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Bethany on Monday, February 15th at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond following the service.
