Wanda Pearl Smith was born on December 31, 1929 in Vincent, Oklahoma and grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma. She graduated from Bethany Peniel College (SNU) in 1951 and married Robert L. "Bob" Smith on June 10, 1951. Our Dad served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri where Mom taught the soldiers going off to war to read and write. They then made their home in Bethany, OK where they both taught school. Wanda retired from Putnam City Schools after teaching at several elementary schools in the Oklahoma City area. She also taught at Bethany High School in Bethany, OK. Her loving husband, Robert L. Smith "Bob", of 21 years preceded her in death on October 4, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Garrett and Essie Roper, brother, Ernest Roper and sisters-in-law, Linda and Betty Roper, and nephew Billy Roper. She is survived by brothers Ray (Loretha) Roper and Danny Roper; daughter Cindy Plugge (Dennis) of Oklahoma City and grandchildren, Collin and Kathleen Mastbrook and Dylan Plugge; son Gary R. Smith (Angie) of Edmond, OK and grandchildren Melissa Russell (Brent), Rob Smith (Treasa) and Garan Smith; great grandchildren, Cierra, Emily, Joshua, Kaleb and Michiyo and niece Elaine Drake and nephews Mike and Randy Roper. She was a lifetime member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene and the Kumjoynus Sunday School class. The family would like to thank the great staff at Brookdale Quail Creek and especially Nancy, Sierra, Blake, Walter, Sylvie, Linda, Keisha, Bola, Stacy, Trish and Serena who helped give our mom purpose these last few months. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 10:00 am at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, 6789 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK with burial to follow in the Bethany Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Mercer Adams from 9:00 to 9:00, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
