Obituary

Wanda Lou Labbait peacefully departed this world in her Carrollton, Texas home on December 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, on November 29, 1942, to Isaiah Newton Harris and Louella Hyatt Harris, Wanda was the second of six siblings, achieving the remarkable age of eighty-two.

On December 3, 1962, Wanda married John (Nick) Nixon Labbait in Ft. Smith, where their love story began. The couple met at Smitty's Drive-In, where Wanda worked as a car hop. Captivated by Nick's charm and good looks, Wanda fell head over heels in love. Together, they were blessed with three daughters: Nikki, Kerri, and Kelli. In the early years, they moved to Oklahoma City, where they created a wonderful life filled with love and laughter. Wanda was a deeply devoted family member—loving, kind-hearted, and full of joy. Her infectious sense of humor and sharp wit made her one of the funniest people in any room. She cherished her time spent with family, enjoyed summers at Lake Eufaula, and embraced the adventures of travel.

Wanda dedicated her career to Lucent Technologies (AT&T), where she worked from 1965 until her retirement in 2000. After retiring at the age of 55, she lovingly cared for her mother until her passing in 2003. The sudden loss of her husband, Nick, in 2006 brought profound change to her life, yet Wanda's love for her children and her zest for life guided her through the heartache. In 2010, she moved to Carrollton, Texas, with her youngest daughter, Kelli, where she continued to thrive, frequently visiting Oklahoma City to connect with family and spending her summers at Lake Eufaula. In December 2021, Wanda was diagnosed with lung cancer. Throughout her illness, she exhibited unshakeable faith and remarkable determination. In August 2024, she entered hospice care at home, surrounded by love until her passing.

Wanda leaves behind her beloved children: Nikki Schramm, Kerri Etheredge, Kelli Wehba, and Kelli's husband, Jack, whom she embraced as a son. She is also survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Aspen Hospice Care for the care, compassion, and support provided during the last four months of her journey.
