Obituary

Wanda Lean Baresel, age 90, peacefully completed her earthly pilgrimage at home surrounded by her family and entered the presence of God for eternity on August 28, 2013. Wanda was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was born September 30, 1922 to Joseph and Mary (Doolen) Rodgers in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She graduated from Central State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and taught home economics for 17 years at Western Oaks Junior High School before retiring in 1985. Since retiring, she has continued to serve her community as an active member of Putnam City Baptist Church where she was the Director of the Peacemakers Sunday school class for more than two decades and participated in mission projects such as the church charitable pantry and the hospital visitation project where she helped make and deliver thousands of hand crafted sterile flowers to patients in cancer and burn wards. Wanda also worked with the Baptist Homes for Children mission, concentrating primarily on the children's style shows, where she initiated the participation of the Putnam City Baptist Church into the mission and their fund raising efforts while also assisting during the shows themselves. She also participated in the Samaritan's Purse "Operation Christmas Child" project as long as her health permitted her to wrap and stuff shoe boxes with items she and others donated. Wanda was preceded into heaven by her parents and two brothers, Joe and Jim Rodgers. She is survived by son, Larry and wife Delphina of Oklahoma City, and son, Roger and wife Judith of Edmond; sisters-in-law, Ella Walker of Lansing, Michigan, Esther Stanley of Pullman, Washington, Doris Lombardi of Peculiar, Missouri, Neva Rodgers of Konawa, Oklahoma, and Linda Rodgers of Henderson, Nevada; 6 grandchildren, Robyn, Deborah, "Peanut", Paul, Mary, and Kyle; and 10 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Justin, Tyler, Ivy, Bryce, Luca, Milla, Zaine, Finn and Clara; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Keelee and Abbey. No woman hath a greater love for her husband, family and community than Wanda. And no woman was more loved and respected by her husband, family and friends. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Karen Ross and Dolores Hoogendoorn, RN for the loving care which they provided Wanda. There will be a viewing from 5-7pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home in Bethany Oklahoma with the service on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10am in the Chapel at Mercer-Adams. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery beside her beloved husband of 62 years. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to the debt service retirement fund at Putnam City Baptist Church or the Baptist Children's Home Style Show.
