Wallace Le Roy Hystad, age 91, died on January 10, 2023 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born August 22, 1931 in Watford City, North Dakota to Carl and Esther Frazee Hystad. He married Clarice Ann Johnson on August 1, 1953 in West Palm Beach, Florida. From that marriage came 7 children. Later, Wallace married Patricia Ann Bailey on July 29, 1992 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Clarice; four children, Kenneth Aaron Hystad, Kevin Mark Hystad, Allison Kay Nazzal, and Timothy Scott Hystad; 4 great-grandchildren; as well as brothers, Norris Hystad and Milton Hystad; and sister, Joyce Forland.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia of the home; children, Debra Annette Menard and her husband David of Sunset, Louisiana; Jon Eric Hystad and his wife Jolynn of Houston, Texas; and Keith Allen Hystad and his wife Sheila of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; step-daughters,Terri Rockwell and her husband Tom of Pine City, New York, and Sheryl Hitt of Del City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cory, Brad, Marcus, Kimberly, Brett, William, Nicholas, and Abigail; as well as 12 beloved great-grandchildren; he is also survived by his brother, Carlyle Hystad; and sisters, Valeria Tweeden, Phyllis Mindrup, Eileen Fehlen, and Judy Gronquist.
Wallace graduated from the University of Minnesota. He retired from Employers Insurance of Wausau after 36 years of faithful service. He was a proud American who served his country as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War, flying as a member of the 307th Bomb Group Wing. For his service he was awarded the Air Medal, the Korean War Service Medal, the National Defense Medal, and the U.N. Service Medal.
Wallace loved life, was generous and kind to others, and loved and served his family well. He and Pat were actively involved in church, serving as small group leaders at the Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. While living in Holiday Island Arkansas, he and Pat also helped start the Emmanuel Baptist Church, meeting in their home until they could find a permanent location.
Wallace is much loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday January 13th at the Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, Oklahoma, with interment following at the Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
