Obituary

W.A. "Dub" Ross, 98, died October 26, 2024 in Oklahoma City, OK. Born May 2, 1926, in Central City, Arkansas, he was the eldest and only son to W.A. "Bullet" Ross and Sarah Nelch Ross. While growing up in the coal mining community of Jenny Lind, he attended Greenwood High School. During his junior year, and as WW2 progressed, Dub took leave of school to enlist in the U.S. Navy Corps. He was stationed at Barber's Point Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where he maintained and flew on the PB4Y-2 Privateer aircraft. For his service, he received the Asiatic-Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal.

Upon returning home, Dub completed high school and graduated with his younger sister. He pursued work as a route bus driver for the Trailways Bus Company. While driving, he met his future bride, the pretty young Dorothy Estes, who rode his bus, weekly, from Fayetteville to Lincoln. They married in 1953 and celebrated nearly 68 years together before her death in 2021.

After moving to Muskogee, OK, Dub worked for Westinghouse Corporation, selling appliances throughout eastern Oklahoma. While living in Muskogee, Dub was introduced to Christ as his personal Savior and began attending Eastern Heights Baptist Church. After plateauing in his sales territory, he took a job with Southwest Manufacturing Company and moved his growing family to Oklahoma City in 1962. During his time at SMC, he brought the company out of bankruptcy and into solid growth. He left SMC in 1971 to form the Dub Ross Company. Through hard work and endurance in an ever-changing business environment, the company continues to thrive 53 years later.

Dedicated to DRC, Dub traveled the state, calling on customers, well into his 90's until his ailing wife and the Covid calamity slowed him down. For many years Dub said he was "going to retire at the end of the year" but never could.

In addition to his business success, Dub was successful in other areas of his life. He served on many boards, including the National Corrugated Steel Pipe Association, Oklahoma Baptist University, Integris Baptist Hospital and numerous other institutions. He was known as a man of faith, serving as a deacon, usher, and Sunday School director in the churches he attended. He believed that God had uniquely blessed him so that he could bless others. Dub did not hesitate to share his faith with people he daily encountered. He was a member of Quails Springs Baptist Church and for many years prior at First Southern Baptist Church, Del City. He was a generous donor to numerous churches, Christian camps, schools and children's homes in Oklahoma. As a man who loved his family, fishing, and southern gospel music, Dub Ross would give God all the glory for his blessings and success throughout his 98 years of life.

Dub was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy; two sons, Mark and Scott; sisters, Doris Null (Tom) and Bernadine Johnson (Merle); and three grandchildren.

He is survived by three sons, Mike, Steve (Racinda) and Jerry (Tammy); eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His rich legacy will continue on through his ever-expanding family!
