Obituary

Vivian Marie Royer departed this life on January 4, 2011, at St Anns Retirement Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was 95 years old. Vivian was born August 28, 1915 in Lugart, OK to G.V. and Lela (Steele) Morse and spent her early years on a ranch near Steamboat Springs, CO, before moving to Elk City, OK, where she graduated from high school. She worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator until she met a dashing young Navy aviator, Charles Royer. They were married August 23, 1944, and she became a brave and courageous Navy wife. As a child of the Great Depression, thrift and self-sufficiency were a large part of her core; she made most of her own clothing and that of her family as well as outfitting the various camping vehicles that she and Charles enjoyed every summer. Vivian became a Christian in a tent meeting at the age of 13. She was a long-time member of Putnam City Baptist Church and taught 4th grade Sunday School for many years. In her later years, she was involved with the Pioneer group and participated in doll-making and Christmas Child projects. Vivian is survived by a daughter, Pamela J. Sanny (Tom), of Colorado Springs, CO, and a son, Robert J. Royer (Suzanne), of Flower Mound, TX., a sister, Ruby M. Allison (Lloyd), of Elk City, OK, and a brother, Joe V. Morse (Helen), of Humble, TX. Her much loved grandchildren are John Sanny of Round Rock, TX, Jessica Royer Ocken of Chicago, IL, and Graham Royer of St. Louis, MO, as well as five very special great-grand children. Spunky and feisty until the end, Vivian was widely respected and loved. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Raymond Morse, her parents, and her husband, Charles. Viewing will be Friday, 9am-9pm with the family receiving visitors from 3:30-8:00pm at Mercer-Adams. Private family graveside services will be Saturday, January 8, 2011 in Resurrection Cemetery, Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Putnam City Baptist Church in Vivians memory.
