Vivian Marcella Gassett was born in McKinney, Texas on May 8, 1924. She was the only daughter of J.W. and Edith (Williams) Farnsworth. Vivian went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 19, 2015. Vivian found Jesus at a very young age and spent many hours each week reading her Bible and praying to her faithful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! The family moved from Quanah, Texas to Wellington, Kansas when Vivian was very young and she attended 12 years of school in the Wellington public schools. She graduated Wellington High School in 1942. In 1943, she attended Bethany-Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University) in Bethany, OK where she studied piano and literature. In January of 1944, Vivian married Wendell Gassett and they began farming in the rural community of Oxford, KS. To this union, three children were born: Drexell Wadene, Danny Dale, and Joy Daleneexactly 4 years apart. Vivian loved being a farmer's wife and did a lot of truck driving as she hauled wheat to the elevators. She did all of the mowing of the yards and kept her flower gardens flourishing. They also had large vegetable gardens and spent lots of time canning and freezing the produce. She was also an excellent cook. Vivian taught private piano lessons and had over 40 pupils. She was also the church pianist for many years at the Wellington Church of the Nazarene. In 1976, they built a new home and enjoyed living there for over 30 years where they loved to entertain and host parties, cook-outs, showers, and various community, church and family events. They also enjoyed their variety of pets. As a couple, they loved to travel and often took trips with friends to Branson, Washington DC, Hawaii, and various points of interest. Vivian always made a book of their trips. Vivian always wrote a Christmas letter in the form of a poem to be sent to their many friends and family. She learned to send emails at the age of 82. She enjoyed keeping up with her friends using this "high tech" communication. After 62 years of marriage, Wendell died January 20, 2005. Vivian then moved to Southern Plaza in Bethany, OK where she has lived for the past 10 years. She continued to enjoy sharing her music by playing the piano and organ at both Southern Plaza and in her Sunday school class at Bethany First Nazarene where she enjoyed many friends and family members. Vivian is survived by her three children, their spouses, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren: Dennis and Drexell (Gassett) Bergstrom of Bethany, OK, three grandsons, Blake Bergstrom and wife Ally of Nashville, TN, Barry Bergstrom and Brett Bergstrom, both of OKC, Dan Gassett of Dallas, TX and two granddaughters, Jon and Debbie (Gassett) Sykes of Frisco, TX and Glenn and Becky (Gassett) Carpenter of Denton, TX; Phil and Joy (Gassett) Brown of Bethany, OK, three grandsons, Scott and Lauren Brown of Bethany, OK, Terry and Sarah Brown of OKC, and Taylor and Rachel Brown of Yukon, OK. The great-grandchildren are Madison, Moriah, Montana, Mercy, Lecsi, Brooklyn, Jillian, and Maverick Bergstrom, Ashley and Madelyn Sykes, Cole and Avery Carpenter, and Teddy Ryan Brown. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Don Gassett, sister-in-laws, Marlene Gassett, Mary Frances Gassett; nephews Mark and Bryant Gassett; nieces, Sherri Pat Rothwell, Delana Massey; and a host of cousins, neighbors and friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We'd like to thank her physician, Dean Brown, for caring for her so faithfully for the past 10 years. Funeral services will be Friday, April 24, at 11:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Wellington Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, April 25 at 1:30pm.
