Virginia was taken by the Lord God Almighty to Heaven on November 9, 2014 at 1:28 a.m. She was born on July 12, 1933 in Oklahoma City on a record hot day (her mother said) to Alun Neut and Allene Hamilton who preceded her in death. Her family moved to Dallas, Texas shortly after her birth seeking employment during the great depression. Virginia grew up in Dallas, claiming it as her home town. She and her mother and sister, Barbara, volunteered for the American Red Cross folding bandages during World War II. Virginia attended public schools in Dallas and college at East Central State in Ada, OK. She was then employed by the Frito Lay Co. in Dallas. In 1954, Virginia met Francis Lee Johnson through Francis' friend, Bill White and Jo, Bill's wife and Virginia's cousin. They went to sports car races near Eagle Mtn. Lake sharing enthusiasm for the sport, later becoming fans of Formula One racing. Virginia and Lee fell in love and became engaged. On June 18, 1955, they were joined in holy matrimony at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Dallas. This year, they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. To this union was born two fine sons, William (Bill) Alun of OKC and Benjamin Warren of Pleasant Hill, CA. Virginia and Lee became OKC residents in August, 1955. She was employed by Dr. Clarence Gallagher, MD, son of Ed Gallagher, Oklahoma A&M University wrestling champions coach. In 1970, the family moved to Joplin, MO, where Virginia was employed by St. Johns Hospital in Evaluation Review. She was very active in the American Business Women's Association (ABWA), participating in television interviews and program planning. She was also active in local and state office races. Virginia was an official of the Joplin Beauty Pageant and Missouri State Beauty Pageant, which produced a national contestant. In 1982, Virginia and Lee returned to OKC where she was employed by Mashburn Oil Co. and later the Oklahoma Highway Dept. where she was active in scheduling Engineers in Training (EIT), later transferring to the Data Processing Division. Virginia and Lee retired in July, 1996, giving them more time for European travels, which she took great pleasure in. Virginia became a volunteer at Integris Baptist Hospital shortly after retirement, amassing over 18 years of dedicated service, and recently received a 6,000 hours award and pin. Her volunteer service time, helping the hospital, patients, their loved ones and friends as well as the volunteers association, was no doubt one of the greatest and most satisfying things she did during her lifetime. Unfortunately, Virginia was struck down by a disabling illness and was never able to continue serving others. She will be interred in her volunteer's uniform. Virginia is survived by her husband, Francis; sons, Bill and Ben; daughter-in-law, Angela; and granddaughter, Alexandria "Alex". She was a 45-year member of St. Luke's Methodist Church (UMC). A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 at 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, OK, with interment to follow in Rose Hill Burial Park, OKC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a respiratory treatment group of your choice.
