Vicki Darlene
Sacket
Jun 7, 1947 — Jan 11, 2024
Vicki Darlene (Flynn) Sacket of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord on January 11, 2024. She was born on June 7, 1947, to Rev. Charles E. and Naomi M. Flynn, in Bedford, Indiana. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. When Vicki was in the fourth grade, her family moved to Malvern, Arkansas where her father was employed by General Motors. Later he went to Reynolds Aluminum Cable plant where he worked for 22 years. During this time her father served as the supply pastor for various Nazarene churches in the area. She learned accordion and piano which she played for her father's church services. While in Malvern, they built a home on Lake Catherine at the edge of Hot Springs, where Vicki attended Lakeside schools. She played piano for many musical groups in high school and graduated in 1965 as valedictorian.
Vicki then enrolled in Bethany Nazarene College (BNC) in Bethany, OK. While at BNC, she participated in many programs where she was able to serve others. Those included Missionary Emphasis League (MEL), Mission Crusaders, an outreach of MEL, and Athenas, a service organization for senior women with high academic standing. She was secretary of MEL and Athenas. Being a part of the leadership of MEL led her to meet the love of her life, Wayne Sacket. When he auditioned for Mission Crusaders, she was one of the people who approved of his addition to the group. During a trip for Mission Crusaders to El Reno, OK, Wayne invited Vicki to go with him which started their courtship. In May of 1969, Vicki graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Elementary Education.
Following graduation, the Superintendent of Schools of El Reno sought Vicki to be a teacher at Hillcrest Elementary School, even though there was no opening. Vicki began her teaching career that spanned 38 years having taught close to a thousand students, with all but two of those years teaching third grade. She won Teacher of the Year for the El Reno district and served on many committees to better the lives of her students.
In 1971, she married the love of her life, Wayne Sacket, in Hot Springs, AR on August 14. They made their home in Oklahoma City, and later El Reno. They attended Warr Acres (OK) Church of the Nazarene and were a part of the BYKOTA Sunday School where they created lifelong friendships with a core group of friends who continued to meet monthly for many years.
Vicki gave birth to a son, Steven Kyle, in 1974. Her second son, Brian Wayne, arrived in 1981. She was a long-time member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene (BFC) where she served as the Children's Bible Quizzing director for 8 years, taking over from her life-long best friend, Dr. Madalyn Long. She was also active with the Lifelifters Sunday School class at BFC. After retiring from teaching in 2007, she volunteered at her grandchildren's school for a few years. Retirement allowed her to enjoy scrapbooking, reading, and spending more time with grandchildren and family. A few years ago, Vicki and Wayne moved to Baptist Village where they thoroughly enjoyed their neighbors.
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Valarie Staniscia. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Wayne, of the home in Oklahoma City; her sons, Steven and wife, Denise, of Edmond, OK and Brian and wife, Julie, of Piedmont, OK; brother, Tim Flynn of Bethany, OK; sister, Teresa Lovelace of Bethany, OK; four grandchildren, Hayley, Brady, Sean, and Sydney, all of Edmond, OK; and numerous extended family members, most of which were treated much closer than how they were related. Her legacy of love will be felt by those who received it for many years to come.
Memorial services for Vicki will be held at 10:00am, Friday, January 19 at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed at www.bethanynaz.org/live.
