Obituary

Verna Jeanne Ingargiola, born August 6, 1933 passed from this life on February 6, 2024.

Born in Tishomingo, Oklahoma to Melvin and Blanche Disheroon, Verna was the oldest of 2 children. She grew up surrounded by extended family enjoying all that rural living had to offer. Days were often spent swimming in Blue River near her home in Bullard Chapel, OK and enjoying the company of her many cousins and friends.

She and her brother BJ would often ride their horse, Stranger to school. One fateful day, the horse was spooked by a snake and bucked furiously tossing the 2 riders aside. Always the protective older sister, Verna ran to her younger brother's side fearing for his safety. To her surprise all he said was "That was fun City (his nickname for his sister) – make him do that again!"

When she became a teenager, weekly dances on Saturday became one of her favorite activities. One such dance brought to town a "Cape Codder" that would change her life forever. Verna and Casey were immediately taken with each other and danced the night away hardly aware that anyone else was there. For 3 years after Casey returned to his home on Cape Cod, they wrote to each other and their love continued to grow.

At the age of 18, Verna left Tishomingo for a job in Oklahoma City at New York Life Insurance Company. She and Casey were married October 24, 1952 and set up their home in Oklahoma City. Verna later left the insurance company to start a family, soon having 2 boys, Randy and Tony. Verna was completely devoted to her family for her entire life, always putting their needs ahead of her own. After the children were of school age, Verna began a career at the Putnam City School system that lasted until her retirement in 1993. She served initially as a lunch room hostess and ultimately became a secretary in the administrative offices working for many of the curriculum coordinators for the school district.

She and Casey regularly enjoyed Saturday dances at their second home at Falconhead Ranch and Country Club just outside of Marietta, OK. Many mornings and evenings were spent watching the varied wildlife in the area from their expansive front porch and talking of days to come and those gone by with family and friends that came to visit.

She and Casey also travelled extensively with their travel club, making lifelong friends and enjoying many adventures both in the United States and abroad.

They settled happily in to retirement at their long time home in Oklahoma City, eventually living there for 55 happy years.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Blanche, her brother Bobby Joe (BJ) and Ricky a son that died in infancy. She is survived by her husband of the home, Casey, her 2 sons, Randy and wife Angela of Edmond, OK, Tony of Austin, TX, one grand daughter Kristen and husband Daniel and 3 great grand daughters Reese, Reagan and Eleanor of Edmond, OK.
