Velma Lea
Raybon
Aug 16, 1937 — Jun 6, 2024
Velma went home to Heaven on June 6, 2024 after a long and courageous battle against cancer.
She was born on August 16, 1937 in Ada, Oklahoma to Owen Franklin and Vallie Mae Voyles. Velma grew up on her family's dairy farm with her sisters, Erma Jean and Bobbie Sue. Although life on the farm was demanding she loved attending church whenever she was able. At a church revival when she was 8 or 9 Velma accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and she spent the rest of her life serving and following Him.
Velma had a passion for music that was kindled in the church choir as a child. Her and her sisters were frequently asked to sing as part of a quartet for special occasions across the county. She could often be found working in her yard tending to her meticulously kept flowers. She always loved the newness of life that she saw in the blooming of flowers each spring and the reminder that God gave us new life. She was always active in her churches and loved being involved in activities with her church family and Sunday School class.
Velma married Doyle Cox on October 15, 1955. Doyle was a Free Will Baptist Pastor and she was the quintessential pastor's wife. She had the gift of hospitality; hosting many church leaders and missionaries in her home throughout the years. They pastored churches in the Ada area, Healdton, Sulphur, and Wewoka. Doyle passed away on September 29, 1979 while they were pastoring the Wewoka church.
Velma later met and married H.L. "Pete" Raybon in 1983. They lived together in San Antonio for a period before retiring and moving to Oklahoma City in 1992. They made many friends and enjoyed the fellowship at Quail Springs Baptist Church where Velma was still a member until her passing.
Velma loved her family most of all and is survived by her 2 daughters, Teresa Berg and husband Rick, Lori Streater and husband Bret. She was proud to be Gran to her 5 grandsons: Aaron Berg (Rahle), Adam Berg (Andrea), Austin Berg (Markie), Tate Streater (Wendy) and Tanner Streater (Skyler) and 12 great grandchildren: Morgan, Charlotte, Ally, Mady, Cooper, Maggie and Asher Berg and Breckin, Jett, Drake, Tatum and Asa Streater.
She is also survived by step-son Bruce Raybon and his wife, Mary and by Pete's grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with her nieces and nephews and Doyle's sisters, Wanda Murphy and Beverly Franz (Bill).
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters, and step-son Randy Raybon.
