Obituary

Veldonna Virginia Meyers quietly passed away November 10, 2020 at the age of 92. She was one of those people loved by everyone who knew her. Veldonna lived by a strong Christian ethic of loving all and always being kind. The only child of Freeman and Gladys Taber, she was born in Ava, Missouri, where she grew up and graduated from Ava High School. She attended Arizona State University where she acquired her teaching degree as well as a masters degree in education and taught elementary/middle/high school age groups in Arizona and Oklahoma. Veldonna was married to John Carl Meyers for 57 years and had 2 children, Alan and Keith. She met the love of her life, John, while attending college at Arizona State. While in Arizona, Veldonnas parents worked and lived on the Navajo Native American Reservation. It was during that time she had the privilege to learn so much about the Native American history and traditions and developed a love of the culture. She prided herself in collecting wind chimes that depicted many Native American art icons. Veldonna was also an accomplished artist, well known for her black and white scratchboard works and her beautiful watercolors. And she cherished her family. She was always willing to go above and beyond for her family or for that matter anyone who needed help. She was very active in her church, teaching Sunday school and helping in any capacity wherever needed. She was active in Boy Scouts, serving as a cub scout den mother. She and John spent years assisting at Boy Scout summer camp following his retirement and before his passing. Veldonna is survived by her two sons, Alan Lee Meyers and wife Pam and by Keith Jay Meyers, also by her grandchildren, Brian Keith Meyers, Shandelle Marie Meyers, April Michelle Chesser and husband Donny Chesser, and Cassandra Michele Howser and husband Josh Howser, as well as four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces and nephews who mostly reside in Indiana, and numerous cousins most of whom still reside in the Ozarks where she grew up and who now help to care for the land she owned and cherished that has been in her family for generations. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, who passed away in 2006, by her mother, Gladys Parcels Taber and her father, Freeman Estle Taber. She was also preceded in death by all her aunts, uncles, and first cousins as she was the only remaining member of her generation. Her loving nature and spunky attitude will be missed by everyone who knew her. . Memorial Service Mercer-Adams Chapel Saturday, December 12, 2020 10:00 AM 3925 N. Asbury Bethany, OK 73008
