Tommy Jo Giddens of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away at 1:03am on October 29, 2015 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. Tommy was born in Dallas, Texas on April 30, 1948 to Thomas Winfrey Giddens and Ruth Elizabeth Harrell Giddens. Tommy is survived by his wife, Judith Ann McKinley Giddens; one daughter, Sandra Rene Giddens O'Neal; and two grandsons, Trenton Giddens and Keegan O'Neal. Tommy graduated high school in Terrell in 1966. He attended college at Tarleton State College in Stephenville, Texas. He enlisted in the Navy Seabees where he served 2 tours to Vietnam. Tommy was very proud of his service for his country. Upon getting out of the service in May of 1971, he returned to Snyder, Texas where he and Judy were married on October 15, 1971. Tommy remained in West Texas working as a welder in the oilfield and attending Western Texas College taking courses at night. He received his Associate's Degree in Welding. He also attended the Underwater Welding School in Houston, Texas and received his certification for Underwater Welding. In 1987, Tommy and Judy moved to Tehachapi, California where he started teaching Welding and Building Trades to problem students who were no longer allowed in public schools. This proved to be Tommy's niche as he had the highest graduation percentage that the high school had ever had. Tommy loved working with the youth and he loved working with his hands both in welding and building trades. He returned to Texas in 1989 when his mother became ill. He returned to California in 2000 where he remained until Judy was transferred to Oklahoma in 2007. The memorial service for Tommy will be at 10:00am this Thursday, November 5, at Mercer Adams Chapel, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK.
