Dr. Thomas Conley (T.C.) Leckie, Jr went to his eternal heavenly home on June 6, 2024. T.C. was born to Rev. Thomas Conley Leckie, Sr., and Viola May Green Leckie on April 29, 1932. Rev. T.C. Leckie, Sr. was president of the Methodist Conference from 1910 to 1911. He was Nazarene District Superintendent from 1912 to 1916. Dr. T.C. Leckie, Jr. was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, where his father was pastor of the Nazarene church. T.C. Leckie, Jr lived in Britton, Oklahoma, Memphis, TN, Enterprise, OR, and Buhl, Idaho, where his father was pastor of the Nazarene churches. T.C. Leckie, Jr. began college studies at Northwest Nazarene College in the fall of 1950. As a pianist, he traveled with the college quartet the spring, summer, and fall of 1952.
In September 1953, T.C. married Joyce Leta Yates. T.C. graduated from Northwest Nazarene College with a bachelor's degree in music in 1954. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955. He was a graduate assistant to Eugene Stowe (Nazarene General Superintendent). T.C. was Head Resident of Hadley Hall while teaching at Northwest Nazarene College. He taught piano and theory from 1953 to 1960, with theory always being his absolute favorite course to teach. During the summer of 1955, he studied at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) at the masters level. He continued masters level studies at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon in 1956 and 1957. He performed his graduate recital by premiering the Samuel Barber Sonata in 1957. T.C. returned to his teaching at Northwest Nazarene College. In 1960, T.C. moved to Bethany, Oklahoma with his wife, Joyce and two daughters, Gayla and Cindy. At Bethany Nazarene College, T.C. taught piano and aural theory (his favorite).
After 11 years of teaching at Bethany Nazarene College, T.C. taught piano and theory at the University of Central Oklahoma for 23 years. In total, it was 40 years of teaching. He premiered the Samuel Barber Sonata at the University of Central Oklahoma, Northwest Nazarene College, and the University of Oregon. T.C. received his PHD in music at the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Oklahoma City Pianists' Club. In Retirement, he dedicated his time teaching the Bible to adult Sunday school classes and weekday group Bible study at many churches and senior living centers.
T.C. is survived by his three daughters, Gayla (Steve Cooper), Cindy (Randy Ehrlich), and Vanda (Tracy Camper); Six grandchildren, Christy, Jennifer, Kelli, Amy, Alyssa, and Josh; Five great-grandchildren, Elise, Hazel, Ava, Skylar, and Greyson.
