Marie Hughes was born Thelma Marie Auker on June 11, 1931. Her family of nine made their home on a farm near Auburn, Nebraska. As children, she entertained us with stories of farming with her father and piling on the horse with her two brothers and four sisters for the ride to school. She graduated from Auburn High School in 1949. Marie had five children: Mickey, Candy, Linda, Jane and Mike, along with three step-children, Tommy, Gay and Kathy. Of course, with eight children, she had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman "Earl" Hughes. Marie was a gambler at heart. She loved to play Bingo with anyone who would take her to play. She also enjoyed crosswords, jigsaws and other puzzles that challenged her mind. She was awesome at Wheel of Fortune and could win almost every game from her recliner. Maries favorite thing in the world was spending time with her children and grandchildren. That was her special hobby as evidenced by all her pictures. Rarely was she caught on camera without at least one child by her side or on her lap. She led a full life and leaves behind many loved ones. Words cannot describe the void created by her passing. She was the Best Mom and Grandma in the world.
