Thelma "Allene"
Quillen
Nov 7, 1932 — Mar 9, 2024
The angels came to take our beloved "Mimi" Alayne Elster aka Thelma "Allene" Quillen, home on Saturday, March 9, 2024 to join her Heavenly Father, and her family who had preceded her in death. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was a wonderful and beautiful lady, and she will be missed terribly! She taught us so much and set a wonderful example of fairness, kindness, love, compassion and generosity.
She was born Thelma Allene Corbell, to Waynewright Corbell and Thelma Corbell née Carbine on November 7, 1932 in Mesilla Park, New Mexico. She was raised in Hatch, New Mexico, and she always loved to go home every time she got the chance!
Allene was an elegant and glamorous woman who always dressed up no matter where she was going! She had a great sense of humor and she was open-minded, a lot of fun to be with, and she was a very thoughtful person!
She was a wonderful cook, just like her mother, a wonderful gardener, just like her father, a fabulous storyteller, and a wonderful friend! She encouraged us in our dreams and endeavors and she taught us to be strong, to think for ourselves and to stand up for what we believed in.
Allene worked in the restaurant industry, where she managed the Petroleum Club. She owned and operated "Mimi's Cottage Tea Room" in Bethany, OK, and Pratt, KS, as well as "The Creek House Kitchen" in Kechi, KS. She was a talented event planner and her specialty was table-side cooking and elegant dining. She also had a costume jewelry and accessory business for over 35 years, and she was a dear friend to many people. She even turned dialysis into a social occasion that she dressed up for! We were richly blessed to have her in our lives for 91 years!
Allene is survived by her daughters, Barbara and Karen; her granddaughter, Wendy and her husband Chalo; and her four great-granddaughters and two great-great-grandchildren through them; her two grandsons, Gary and his wife Shandis, and Chris, and his wife Amelia; and her great grandson through them. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
As we lift Allene up to our most glorious Heavenly Father, we thank Him for the many wonderful years that He gave us with her and we ask Him to welcome her into His Heavenly Kingdom. And we pray for this legendary lady and give her joyful praise and sincerely thank her for everything! We love you and miss you with all of our hearts, Mimi!!
