Obituary

Our precious mother and grandmother, Susan Jane Bussert "Susie," age 75, died in her hometown surrounded by her children and grandchildren on September 24, 2021. Known for unshakable faith, constant smiles, unthinkable hope, ability to laugh in all circumstances, forgiveness, mercy, and love, she proclaimed in her last days "Because God gives me so much joy in this life on earth, I have tremendous confidence that heaven will be awesome, and I have no reason to fear death or dying." She lived each day in that way. Susie grew up in Duncan, Oklahoma and accepted Christ at the age of 10 at Camp Nunny Cha-Ha. After moving to Bethany, she graduated from Putnam City High School in 1964 and married Charles Bussert on June 11, 1966. She went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with minors in music and art at Central State University. Susie was a stay home mom for 13 years and raised her 3 children. Together with her family, she remained active in church activities at First Baptist Church of Bethany. From writing and directing musicals, singing and signing in choir, greeting, teaching, and volunteering in every way possible, Susie was always enthusiastic about Jesus and the church. An active participant in Singing Churchwomen for 20 years, she lifted the spirits of all around her by her voice and signing. With kindness and love, Susie used her gifts of creativity, encouragement, and evangelism in many roles from teaching at Greenvale Elementary, Western Heights District (1987-1997), volunteering at BGCO Sunday school office, and on staff as Childrens Minister at Cherokee Hills Baptist Church (1998-2006). In May 2007, alongside her husband Charles Bussert, she joined Council Road Baptist Church. One year later, her husband went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2008. Her heart has ached to be with him since then, however that didnt stop her from serving God. Later, she moved into the Baptist Village of Oklahoma City where she continued to use her gifts and acts of love to encourage many others there. Susie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; Charles Bussert; and granddaughter, Kami Gilstrap. She was constantly proud and full of love for her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Tod Bussert and wife Kori, Jason Bussert and wife Suzy, and Ann Hall and husband Marc; sister, Linda Story; brother, Brent Beals; sister-in-law, Fran Bussert; grandchildren, Kelsi, Kylie, Rachel, Ryan, Elijah, Callie, Brooke, and Malachi. The Memorial Service will take place at Council Road Baptist Church on Friday, October 1st at 2:00 p.m. following the burial service for family.
