Stephen Alan Grundy was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on November 4, 1943 to Edwin F. Grundy and Mary T. (Tivens) Grundy. Steve was the youngest of two (brother - Glenn) and lived in Somerville, until his early years of high school, at which time the family relocated to Miami, Florida.
Steve graduated high school in 1961. Soon after, he joined the Air Force and was stationed out of Amarillo, Texas, where he was part of the K-9 division.
In 1963, he met the love of his life, Willene Baxter, and they were married in November of 1964. The couple moved back to Miami, Florida in 1965, at which time Steve joined the Miami Police Department. Their first child, Sharon, was born in 1966. By 1967, the family moved to Friona, Texas where Steve worked for his father-in-law at Friona Ford Motors. He also was able to enjoy his passion for being a pilot. Their second child, Tim, was born in 1968.
In 1968, Steve was accepted into the FAA Academy where he became an Air Traffic Controller (which was his dream job). During this time the family was transferred to serval cities, Oklahoma City, Albuquerque, Houston, and DFW. Steve retired in Houston in 1998.
Steve and Willene moved back to Oklahoma City, where Steve became a teacher and taught the younger generations the art of being an Air Traffic Controller. He also continued his passion for flying and was part of the Civil Air Patrol.
In 2010, he retired from teaching and became a full-time care giver to his wife, who became ill with a heart condition, until 2013 at the time of her death.
He was loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
Steve is survived by his children, Sharon Adcox and her husband Donnie and Tim Grundy and his wife Elizabeth; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Daniel and his wife Kayla, Tegan and her husband Carl, Caitlin & Chris, Hannah, Ethan, Cole, Liora, James, Clayton, Aden, Alexis and Noah; and also by his beloved extended family of nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Willene Grundy; parents, Edwin & Mary Grundy; brother, Glenn Grundy; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Oscar and Opal Baxter; brother-in-law, Troy Young, sister-in-law, Debra Baxter; and nieces and nephew, Jan, Charlene and Farron.
Viewing at Mercer-Adams will be Thursday, December 14 from 10am-8pm with family present from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Friday, December 15 at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed on this obituary page.
