Obituary

Stanley Ray Nance, 68, of Piedmont was born August 19, 1941 in Stigler to Odie Oliver & Nellie Grace Nance. Ray passed away after a brief battle with cancer March 1, 2010. At the age of 9, Ray and his family moved to Bethany where Ray graduated in 1959. On August 28 of that same year, he married Barbara Ann Langrehr who had been his sweetheart since the fifth grade and enjoyed 33 years of marriage until her death in 1992. Ray served on the Bethany Fire Department, Bethany Police Department and later the Oklahoma City Police Department. In 1972, Ray and Barbara moved their family to Piedmont where Ray became Piedmonts first water superintendent and was also instrumental in hiring Piedmonts first fulltime paid Police Chief. After building homes for several years, he started Ellison and Nance Construction Company in 1977. Throughout the years he was a member of the Oklahoma Municipal Contractors Association. Ray and his two sons, Randy and Stanley, started Nance Precast Concrete Products in 1991 where he remained an active participant in the business. Ray is survived by his children, son Randy and wife, Toni, of Oklahoma City, son Stanley Ray II and wife, Patty and daughter Jennifer and husband Greg Owens, loving mother-in-law, Cleota Langrehr, Piedmont; brothers Joe and wife Reba, Raymond and wife Patty, Hershall and wife Paula and Odie; grandchildren Chad Nance and wife, Crystal; Karie and husband, Brien Stewart, Piedmont; Taylor Nance of Oklahoma City; Stanley Ray Nance III Trey; Wm. Garrett Nance; Kyle, Karlie and Sydney Owens, Piedmont; great-grand children Harper and Hayden Nance, and Ashton Stewart, Piedmont; special friend Jean McCann and lifelong friends Larry and Marilyn Henderson. We, as a family, would like to thank our special angels Jean, Renee, Megan and caregivers with Mercy Hospice. Ray is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, parents Odie and Nellie Nance, father-in-law Bill Honey Langrehr; sisters Leona Nance, Dorothy VanderWilt and Lorene Lamb, brother Norman Nance and nephew Jerry Dean Phelps. Throughout his life, Rays kindness, generosity and guidance touched many lives. His legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10am Friday, March 5th, at the First Baptist Church in Piedmont followed by interment in Mathewson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Hospice.
