Shirley Anne Armstrong Wade, age 78, passed away on February 28, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 4, 1935, in Woodward, Oklahoma to Robert and Ethel Armstrong; she was the youngest of four children. She married Arnold Lee Wade on January 28, 1951, in Hardtner, Kansas. On July 6, 1964, their marriage was sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Shirley was raised in Oklahoma, largely in the panhandle area. She graduated from high school and attended two years of college. From a very early age, she loved to read. She sought learning out of the best books, and through her study and faith, she gained great wisdom, which greatly enriched and blessed her family and friends. Of her great love of learning, she recently wrote: "For many years, I have spent most of my time in the scriptures and in reading and studying the words of the Prophets. I love being schooled by the Lord." She loved all that was virtuous and lovely and her life stands as a monument of faith in Jesus Christ, courage and love. Arnold and Shirley began their married life in Hardtner, Kansas, where Arnold was in the grocery business with his Father. After just two months of marriage, Arnold was called into the armed services, leaving Shirley to live with her parents and in-laws for a period of two years. During that two-year period, Shirley gave birth to their first son, Ted. Over the ensuing years, five more sons and a daughter followed, one of whom, the fourth, passed away at birth. Shirley's life was devoted to Arnold and to her children and grandchildren. She has left her posterity a legacy of love, service and devotion to God and family. Shirley was a devout Christian and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). She served in many capacities in her church, including, Teacher, Stake Relief Society President (twice), Stake Young Women's President, Stake Primary President, Assistant Matron of the Oklahoma City Oklahoma LDS Temple, Temple Ordinance Worker, a Full-time Missionary in New Zealand, etc. While her leadership abilities were a blessing to many, her greatest service was performed on a one-to-one basis. She truly loved every person she met and cared very deeply for their happiness and well-being. Shirley is survived by her beloved husband of sixty-three years, Arnold; by her six children: Teddy (Michelle) of Oklahoma City, Bobbi of Oklahoma City, Terry (Gina) of St. George, Utah, Tommy of Oklahoma City, Barry (Tracy) of Edmond, and Chris (Angie) of Edmond; by thirty-three grandchildren and great grandchildren, with one more on the way. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Oklahoma City LDS Stake Center, 5020 NW 63rd St., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
