Shirley Janice Pritchett, a third-generation native of Oklahoma City and active community member, passed peacefully in her home on Friday, August 11th, 2017. Born Shirley Janice Albrecht on May 22nd, 1933, she graduated from Putnam City High School and Blackwood Business College. Her most prominent professional position was as executive secretary at Mid-Continent Life Insurance Company where she worked until retirement in 1995.
Shirley has long been an advocate of the library system. She was active in the Friends of the Library for 33 years; this included serving on the Board of Directors, Vice President of Special Events, and on the Booksale committee as chairman of Publicity and the Pre-Sale party. Additionally, she served on the Library Commission for many years.
Shirley, a charter member of the Central Oklahoma Golden Retriever Club, served on their Board of Directors and taught obedience classes for eighteen years, six years as Training Director. She served as the hospitality chair for the Golden Retriever National twice and for the Regional Specialties thrice. She additionally volunteered her time training and providing therapy with Therapy Dog International.
Shirley became a writer in her retirement. She had numerous articles and stories published including her nostalgic memoir, Money, Marbles and Chalk. She was a long-time member of the Putnam City Christian Church where she served as deaconess. Shirley was also active in the Putnam City Alumni Association.
The quintessential hostess, she loved filling her home with family and friends; her goal was to make anyone who attended one of her events feel like the most important person there. Her exuberant and gregarious personality was the pride of her family.
She was preceded in passing by her husband of 50 years, Bill Pritchett, and her daughter, Frances Helen Pritchett. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Bagwell and Conja Abdassalam; three daughters, Elizabeth and husband Jerry Toland of Warr Acres, Sharon and husband Steve Bolton of Jones, and Barbara and husband Ronald Woods of Lubbock; grandchildren, Samantha Bolton, Stephanie Bolton, Col. William Jones, Christopher Shawbell, Christopher Toland, Dwight Woods, Pascale Clark, Gokhan Aktas, and Beni Bajrami; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is additionally survived by her close friend, Billy Blankenship.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 16th, at 10:00 AM at Putnam City Christian Church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. Mercer-Adams Funeral Service will be handling arrangements.
Viewing and family visitation will be held in her home, 5805 NW 57th Street, Warr Acres, on Monday the 14th from 5:00pm8:00pm and Tuesday the 15th from 2:00pm8:00pm.
