Shirley Ann Carpenter, 77, was welcomed into Gods Heavenly Kingdom on May 10, 2016. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, April 14, 1939, to Andrew Jackson (A.J.) and Sylvia Ruth (Nickels) Woolf.
She graduated from Oklahoma City Northeast High School, earned a bachelors degree from Central State College and a masters degree from Oklahoma City University. She taught high school business and home economics classes at Oklahoma City Southeast, Putnam City and Putnam West high schools.
Shirley was blessed to have two great loves in her life. She first married Luther R. Hutchison, and they had two daughters: Jeanine (who died at birth), and Sheryl. After Luthers untimely death, she married Joseph (Joe) Carpenter, a widower with three children: Kevin, Kyle and Kimberly. Thus, her blended family was formed. Shirley retired from teaching when she married Joe, but teaching was not just her job, it was just who she was. She loved to teach and would teach anyone anything she knew about, at any time. Shirleys hobbies included painting (in all mediums), sewing, quilting, and camping. In her later years, she enjoyed teaching art classes. She loved to share her painting and quilts with everyone. Many family members and friends were given paintings and many of her quilts, especially baby quilts. She was a member of the King of the Road Roamers camping club and had recently served as a club officer. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Jeanine, first husband, Luther, and brother, Charles Woolf. She is survived by husband, Joe Carpenter; daughter, Sheryl (Hutchison, Poe) Lee and husband Rick; daughter, Kimberly (Carpenter, Moore) Thompson and husband Ryan; son, Kevin Carpenter and wife Christine; son, Kyle Carpenter; sister, Peggy Wheeler; sister-in-law, Charlene Woolf; six grandchildren: Zachary Lee, Brooke and Brian Carpenter, Jacob and Miranda Moore, Sabrina (Lee) Cole; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a longtime friend, Alice Story. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bethany. Shirley was very much loved, and will be missed by all who knew her. The family will greet visitors on Wednesday, 5-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 13, 2:00pm at First Baptist Church of Bethany. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
