Shirley Marie Brown, age 70, went home to meet her Lord and Savior on February 5, 2022.
Shirley Marie (Calvin) Brown was born in Hartford City, Indiana, on March 4, 1951, to parents, Kenneth and Donna Calvin. She was one of three kids, which included her older brother, Wayne, and her younger sister, Barbara.
On June 23, 1973, Shirley married the love of her life, Dwayne Allen Brown, in Sterling, Illinois. Together they had two children: daughter, Katrina Lynn and son, Richard Dwayne. With their two children, they moved from Illinois to Bethany, Oklahoma, where they raised their family and established a home for themselves, their children, and their grandchildren. Shirley and Dwayne were happily married for 48 years until he left to his eternal home on July 29, 2021. Shirley faithfully cared for Dwayne throughout his battle with cancer, and now six months later they reunite after her battle with cancer.
Shirley was a wife, a mom, a nana, a sister, a daughter, and a friend. She enjoyed giving generously, creating and sending cards, encouraging others, and spending time with those she loved. She made celebrations, holidays, and special moments festive and memorable. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and she liked to gift others with her homemade meals and goodies to be enjoyed at home. Shirley was known for her creativity, her artistic and crafting abilities, her talent for decorating, and her eye for detail. It was her desire to remember everyones favorite things and preferences, and to make each person feel special. Shirley enjoyed shopping, taking trips, lunch with friends, and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed the gift of sharing life with her husband, Dwayne, who was her best friend as they journeyed this life together side by side.
Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Danny Yarbrough; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tiffany Brown; grandchildren, Dylan, Landon, and Braden Yarbrough, Ethan and Wyatt Brown, Tyler Cunningham, Janessa, Hailey, and Madison Brown; and her younger sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Tony Waskey. A service will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 1:00pm in the Mercer-Adams Chapel in Bethany, Oklahoma. An interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery.
Moms Legacy
A wife, a mom, nana, sister, and friend
This is her legacy til we meet again.
Her life is a story told over the years
And remembered with joy, laughter, and tears.
Her story continues with the Lord up above
The Author, Creator, and God whom we love.
She practiced endurance through trials and sorrow
Clinging to God for His strength she would borrow.
Mom loved the holidays and family traditions
A planner at heart with festive disposition.
People and seasons were reason to celebrate
She cooked and she baked with a skill none can duplicate.
Creative, artistic, and attention to detail
She enjoyed crafting cards, sending smiles in the mail.
Generous to others and following Gods lead
She enjoyed giving gifts and responding to need.
Reading Gods Word, she daily sought Him
Writing down Scripture and listening to hymns.
Music and books during devotions each day
Was her morning routine as she followed His way.
As she spent time with God, the last words that she wrote
Were a message from Psalm that she put in a quote.
They remind us our life is held close in Gods hand
And to trust as He leads to the sweet Promised Land.
