Shirley Mae (Connor) Adams, 80, has gone the way of all flesh to be in the presence of her Lord when she breathed her last breath at 7:48 in the evening of August 14, 2014. A true Oklahoman of Irish and Cherokee descent whose ancestors forged ahead through the Land Run to statehood, Shirley worked for many years as a Nursing Assistant for Manor Care Nursing Centers in Oklahoma City where she herself became a resident during her last days. Encouraged by her father, Shirley's love of sports lasted throughout her life from the Snyder Cyclones in high school basketball and baseball to the Happy Hoofers Tap Dancing Troupe she kept her competitive edge. Shirley Mae, daughter of William Louis Connor, Sr. and Nancy Katherine (Ford) Connor was born is Snyder, Oklahoma on April 4, 1934. In 1956 Shirley wed Barney David Adams, a true blue Texan and husband. Barney preceded Shirley in death after 38 years of marriage on July 25, 1994. They are both missed by their two children, Norman D. Adams and Barbara L. Grey of Oklahoma City. Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Joe R. Connor and survived by her brother, William L. Connor, Jr. and sister, Mary Hinote. A natural at engaging in a heated debate, those who were familiar with her fiery Oklahoma character are obliged to remember her. Services will be held at a later date.
