Obituary

Shawn Joseph Blake Adkison was born July 12, 1972, and died October 24, 2022 at his home in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He is survived by his mother, Jenny Lou Adkison of Shawnee, OK; his father, John W. Adkison and his wife RuDell of Bethany, OK; sister, Tigger French; uncle, Capt. Jerry B. Adkison (USN retired) and his wife Nancy; cousins, and many friends. In July, 1972, John Adkison came home from the Vietnam War on emergency leave to be by his dying fathers side. During that time, he was blessed to be there when Shawn was born in the Shawnee Hospital. John wanted Shawns middle names to be a legacy, thus: Joseph for Earl Joseph Borders, Johns Mentor, and close friend; Blake, Johns paternal grandmothers maiden name. Shawn grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School. He worked at Little Caesars Pizza for many years, working his way up to store manager. He always said he learned a lot about work and life there, and he made many close and lasting friends. After high school graduation he attended St. Gregorys College and then Oklahoma City University. Shawn went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the Oklahoma City University School of Law. Shawn worked as a Child Welfare Specialist for the Oklahoma State Department of Human Services and later as a Court Liaison. After several years there, he decided to resign and start his own law practice, where he specialized in Family Law. He found helping families finalize adoptions particularly rewarding. In recent years, Shawn was his mothers caregiver. He was devoted to her, his clients, and his multiple friend groups in which he served as the instigator of great rounds of laughter, singing, dancing, fun, and delight. Throughout Shawns life he treasured music, especially Fleetwood Mac and Sunday Morning Over Easy radio classics. He charmed and entertained with his irreverent humor. He chose wonder, excitement, and gratitude at every opportunity. Shawns family and legions of heartbroken friends are right now feeling that no party, gathering, or celebration will ever be as raucously joyful again. He will be missed by all who loved him. Shawn's memorial will be held Saturday, November 12 from 2-5 O'clock at the Crown Heights United Methodist Church, 1021 NW 37th St, OKC, OK 73118. It will be a come and go reception for friends and family to come together and honor Shawn. .
