Sammie Louise McKinney, 73, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away suddenly on January 17, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born in Gallup, New Mexico on August 21, 1948 to Sam and Juanita Vivian. On May 27, 1970 she married Billy Michael McKinney after a whirlwind romance when he was discharged from the Navy. Sammie was a proud homemaker and spent many years working from home as a hairdresser. She loved doing hair and talking to the many people she saw every day. Sammies greatest joy was her family and was especially overjoyed when she became a grandmother and was over the moon when she became a great-grandmother. Anytime she cooked dinner for family or friends it gave her so much happiness, and she always made dessert whether you wanted it or not! She met no stranger and loved everyone she met wholeheartedly! Her favorite time of year was always Christmas and the time she spent with family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel G. Vivian and Juanita Vivian, whom she adored. She is survived by her loving husband, Mike McKinney of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughters, Keri Shipley and husband Kurt and Dayna McKinney; grandchildren, Matthew McKinney and wife Alejandra, Sarah McKinney and spouse Chad ODell, Laci Shipley and fianc Andrew Lesnick, Nathan McKinney and wife Stephanie and Lindsi Shipley; great- grandchildren, Felicity McKinney, Elena McKinney, Carter McKinney and coming soon Sawyer Gray; sisters, Julie Hale and husband Raymond and Nancy Husband and husband Harold; she also adored her nieces, nephews and her many friends near and far. The family will hold a Celebration of Life in the near future.
