Ruth Virginia Woodard passed away on November 4, 2008 at the age 91. She was born November 8, 1916, in Wichita, Kansas, to Maud and Charles Mathis. She and her parents moved to Oklahoma City where she graduated from Central High School and then Oklahoma City University. A talented musician, she was organist for Wesley United Methodist Church and then at First United Methodist Church for 20 years. She was an extremely active member of the Deaconess Auxiliary for more than a quarter of a century, serving in a number of leadership roles, including president. In 1977, Ruth was honored as Oklahoma Citys Volunteer of the Year. She also served in 1959-60 as president of Oklahoma City P-TA Council. Ruth and her late husband Kenneth were extremely active members of First United Methodist Church for a number of years and later became members of Bethany First Nazarene Church. On April 19, 1941, Ruth married Charles Kenneth Woodard and they were married for almost 63 years, until his death on March 19, 2003. Ruth is survived by their children: Dan Woodard, of Oklahoma City, and Larry Woodard and his wife Juanita of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren: Doug Woodard and his wife Hej of Pasadena, Californai, Laura Woodard of New York City, Ryan Woodard and his wife Angela of Choctaw, and Brad Woodard of Oklahoma City; great grandchildren: Gracie, Tatum and Hailey Woodard of Choctaw; brother-in-law: Tom J. Love, Jr. of Norman; nephew Tom J. Love III and wife Linda and daughter Lara of Tahlequah; niece: Nancy Vanden Bos and husband Mike of Ponca City; great niece: Grace Hamilton of Norman.
Services are at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 7, 2008 at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. Ruths sons Larry and Dan and daughterin-law Juanita would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Odyssey Hospice for the truly loving care they provided to Mom. Memorials should be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Alzheimer Program or Deaconess Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary.
