Obituary

Ruth Evelyn Cummings (Perry) was born on August 25, 1934 to Harry Lee Roy (Pete) Cummings and Elsie Ruth Eaton in Leedey Oklahoma. Ruth was a kind, loyal, sharp-witted woman who cherished her family. She was a steadfast support for her friends and family. Her 50-year career in the Oil & Gas industries at the First National Bank Building for L.S. Youngblood Oil led her to work with prolific leaders who contributed to Oklahomas rich and dynamic history. She was an integral part of the development of the Youngblood Geological library in the Sarkey Center at the University of Oklahoma. She also ran her own custom frame shop where she could continue to learn about art and use her impeccable craftsmanship to custom design unique pieces. An avid reader, Ruth could often be found reading the New Yorker or doing the NYT crossword puzzle. She loved rebel chefs like Anthony Bourdain and was a culinary explorer herself with signature dishes that the entire family looked forward to all year round. She loved Thunder basketball, concerts at the Civic Center, Broadway and she traveled all over the US with her family from California to New York City. She appreciated design and had impeccable taste. She was inclusive and an advocate and encouraged us all to be our best selves but to also take chances - and be brave. She loved her whole family fiercely and would do anything for them. She was selfless but also self-aware and humble. She was incredibly proud of her family and friends and will be dearly missed among those of us who knew her. Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Richard Perry; her loving parents; her dear sister, Lucille Cummings (Basler); and brother-in-law, Oy. Ruth leaves this world behind to be cherished and embraced by her two children, Eden (& Monte) Turrentine and James (& Lesley) Perry; her two grandchildren, Caitlin Graham & Ethan Perry; as well as her dear family from Leedey, Oklahoma, and a trove of longtime friends.
