Ruth Franklin, 84, died March 4, 2013 in Bethany, Oklahoma. She was born December 4, 1928 in Many, Louisiana to Charlie and Mary (Miller) Williams. Ruth graduated from Many, LA High School in 1946. She attended Northwestern College in Natchitoches, LA for one year. Ruth attended Bethany-Peniel College from 1947-1950. She met Roy in the spring of 1948. In the summer of 1948, Roy joined the Army. Their romance and engagement was conducted through the mail. After waiting for three years for her fianc to return from the war in Korea, they were married on Jan. 1, 1952. In August of 1952, they returned to Bethany, OK where Roy completed his B.S. degree. In August of 1955, they moved to Pueblo, CO where Roy worked for the Pueblo City Schools. Ruth was first and foremost a homemaker, but she also worked in retail for a few years. In 1957, their first child, Rhonda, was born. Kendall was born in 1961, Alan in 1967 and David in 1969. All of the children graduated from SNU over a period of years. The family now boasts of 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Ruth served as a Sunday school teacher and missionary treasurer of the Pueblo First Church of the Nazarene. In December of 2002, Roy and Ruth moved to Bethany, OK to be closer to some of their children. Ruth was a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, where she served on the funeral meal preparation committee for several years. Ruth loved the Lord with all of her heart, mind, soul and strength. And, she loved others with a gentleness and grace. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, W.A and Elmer Williams. Survivors include her husband, Roy; daughter, Rhonda Fisher and husband Don of Hoisington, KS; sons, Kendall Franklin and wife Denise of Bourbonnais, IL, Alan Franklin and wife Marni, and David Franklin and wife Lynsi, both of Edmond; 8 grandchildren, Lisa Thompson and husband Dusty, Joshua Franklin and wife Elizabeth, Brady Franklin, Trevor Franklin, Leslie Franklin, Leah Franklin, Ragan Franklin and Addisyn Franklin; 2 great-grandsons, Christian and Corban; a brother, C.H. Williams, and a sister, Rebecca Hyepock. Funeral services will be Friday, March 8, 10:30am at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. The family suggests memorials to the Swaziland Partnership at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
