Obituary

Ruth Ann Carrico (maiden name Smith) entered Heaven about 9 p.m. on the evening of Thursday, January 25th, 2018, while surrounded by family. Her passing was as the result of complications from heart surgery. Ruth was born in Oklahoma City on February 6th, 1952, and grew up in the old Britton area. Her parents were N. B. and Virginia Giles Smith. She attended local schools, and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1970. She was active in DECA, gymnastics, and choir at school. She was also a member of Britton Baptist Church. Ruth attended Oklahoma Baptist University from 1970 through 1973, where she met David Carrico, who she married on August 18, 1973. They located to Bartlesville in 1990. She was the mother of three children: Jennifer Dianne Lynn, Jeffrey Neal Carrico, and Jillian Leigh Jones, all born in Oklahoma City. Ruth was active in church and community activities, being particularly involved in church children's choirs in Oklahoma City and Bartlesville. She was a founding member of and managing director for Children's Musical Theatre of Bartlesville from its founding until 2009. She taught piano and voice to many Bartlesville children, as well as in Oklahoma City after returning to the area in 2011. She also found more opportunity to invest her life in children by volunteering with the Whiz Kids mentoring program in Oklahoma City. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and by two older brothers, David Smith and James Norman Smith. She is survived by her husband, David Carrico, of the home, her sole living brother, Gerald Smith, her three children named above, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two Basset Hounds.
