Rufus Gerald Maddox departed on his heavenly journey Thursday, February 1, 2024. He passed away at his Bethany home at the age of 87 years. Rufus was born on August 22, 1936, in Benton, Arkansas to Jack and Edna Howell Maddox. He later moved with his parents to Macon, Georgia, and then later to Oklahoma. Rufus was especially proud of his service in the U.S. Marine Corps. He met and married the love of his life, Lorine Brinkley Maddox, on October 24, 1959. Rufus adored his three daughters and treasured his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rufus is affectionately known by his family as Papa.

Rufus was a faithful member of the 50th Street Church of Christ from its very inception in 1952. The family loved hearing Papa offer his heart-felt prayers that seemed to lift you right to the throne room of God. After retiring from the Federal Aviation Administration, he filled many of his days with joy and sawdust in his oasis, his backyard workshop.

Papa was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Dewell, Cecil, Fred and Ron; and a grandson, Kyle Gage. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lorine; his daughters, Donna (Scott) Gage, Sandy (Bill) Adcox, and Denise Maddox; grandchildren, Derek (Brooke) Adcox, Chanda (David) Williams, Lindsay (Brian) Malony, Felicia Adcox, Megan Gage, Rachel Gage, and Isaiah Maddox; and 7 great-grandchildren, Chayton Webb, Van Adcox, West Adcox, Lily Malony, Caitlin Malony, Kyle Malony and Daxten Williams.

About 30 minutes after the memorial, we will gather at Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery for a brief graveside service. (14300 N County Line Road, Oklahoma City, OK) There will be no escort or procession to the graveside. Please honor all traffic lights and laws while traveling.
