Obituary

Ruby Lucille (Arthur) Mersman An outdoors-woman who loved fishing, boating and waterskiing. Ruby would stay out all night fishing. She loved going to the lake and her cabin at Eufaula. Her son Duane recalls she was to be outdone by no one. When he and his teenage friends had motorcycles, so did his mother. On February 25, 1927 Ruby Lucille (Arthur) was the second child born to Ira Leaton "Dick" Arthur and Sarah Irena "Rena" (Veatch) Arthur in Ringwood, Oklahoma. She joined sister, Elma Ruth "Ruth" on the farm and later sister, Lula Rose "Lou" and brother, Chester Alan "Chet" came along. Ruby often spoke fondly of growing up on the farm, helping her father in the field, and also tending to the animals. Ruby was a member of the Ringwood Presbyterian Church as a child. After graduating from Ringwood School in 1945 she moved to Hutchinson, Kansas where she lived with sister, Ruth and her husband Jearold Goodwin until they all moved to Oklahoma City where she met her one love, Robert "Bob" Frank Mersman. She and Bob married on June 19, 1954 at Ringwood Presbyterian Church. From this union was born Robert Duane "Duane" August 3, 1955 in Oklahoma City. Ruby was left a widow too young when her husband Bob passed away in 1966 at the age of 41. She never dated, never remarried. She graduated from cosmetology school and worked as a hair dresser until she was 81. She worked in Oklahoma City at salons such as Sans Souci Salon and Hair Port, to name a couple. Ruby lived with Duane and his wife Karen for a little while before she broke her hip. She moved into the nursing home, "The Lakes," where she lived for four years. She was often seen visiting with her granddogs and frequently wearing a t-shirt "Ask me about my Granddog." Ruby suffered a severe stroke on July 15, 2018 and was unable to recover. She was cared for by loving physicians and staff at Integris Baptist ICU and Integris Hospice House until her death seven days later, on July 22, 2018. Ruby Lucille (Arthur) Mersman was preceded in death by her father, Dick Arthur, mother Rena, husband, Bob Mersman, sister, Ruth (Arthur) Goodwin, and brothers-in-law, Norman Fabra and Jimmie Crowell. Ruby is survived by a sister, Lou Avery of Tulsa; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Fabra and Carol Ann Crowell of Oklahoma City; son, Robert Duane Mersman and daughter-in-law, Karen Hogue Mersman of Oklahoma City; niece, Renee Avery of Tulsa and nephew, Jeff Avery of Skiatook, as well as a host of others. Services will be held Friday, July 27, 2018, 2 p.m., at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene Chapel in the Round. Ruby will be laid to rest beside her husband at Resurrection Cemetery, Oklahoma City. There will be no graveside service. Funeral Service Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, Chapel in the Round Friday, July 27, 2018 2:00 PM 6789 N.W. 39th Expressway Bethany, Oklahoma 73008
