Ruby Lee Maxwell Callaway was born on July 21, 1929 in Depew, Oklahoma. She passed away on March 25, 2009, and is now united with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by her daughters Kimberly Ice and her husband Randy of Oklahoma City, Karen Collins and her husband Chris of Chino, California, and son Kevin Callaway and his wife Jennifer of Enterprise, Alabama. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jeffrey Hill and his wife Monica and children J. Jaiden and Micayla-Grace; Jeremy Hill and his wife Debbie and children Jackson and Peyton; Jennifer Lippincott and her husband Josh and children Kate and Kirsten; Johnathan Collins and his wife Summer and children Natalie Grace and Nathan; and granddaughter Claire Callaway. She was predeceased by her husband Clinton Callaway, and her parents, Robert and Pearl Maxwell. Ruby moved to California in 1934 with her family during the Great Depression. Her memories of the hardship during this time were vivid. After attending 13 schools during first grade, her family finally settled in Riverside, California, where Ruby graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1947. On October 15, 1949, Ruby married Clinton Callaway of Muskogee, Oklahoma and raised a family in Riverside. When her children were grown, she went back to college and obtained a nursing degree from Riverside City College. She then began doing nursing work and continued working through 2006 when she was 77. In 1988 she moved to Oklahoma City from Southern California. She was active in the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church (UMC) and was involved in the CHAPS group and the Stephen Ministry. Services will be at the Chapel Hill UMC, 2717 W. Hefner Rd., Oklahoma City at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 27, 2009 under the direction of the Mercer Adams Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Olivewood Memorial Park, in Riverside, California.
