Roy William Thanscheidt passed away on January 27, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 83. He was born on December 25, 1932 in Mooreland, Oklahoma, to William August and Mary Catherine (Moody) Thanscheidt. He graduated from Mooreland High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic Instructor at the Amarillo Air Force Base from 1952 to 1956, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He earned a B.S. degree in Business from Bethany Nazarene College in 1961. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after working as a Letter Carrier at the Bethany Post Office for 25 years. He became a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene and the Care and Share Sunday School Class after coming to Bethany in 1957.
He was married to Patsy Jean Pagan, having met her at BNC, from 1959 to 1979. He is survived by his son, Bruce Thanscheidt, his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Walid Haddad, and his son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Laura Thanscheidt. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Deeb, Nora, and Renee Haddad, Lisa and Laura Thanscheidt, and Ashley Carlton; his older brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Ruby Thanscheidt of Folkston, Georgia; his younger brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Anita Thanscheidt of Salina, Kansas; his nephews, Michael, Jeffery, William, and Patrick Thanscheidt, and his niece, Carol. He was like a grandfather to Brittany and Ryan Yarholar.
The funeral service will be at 2pm on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Mercer-Adams Chapel followed by the interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the American Cancer Society or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for cancer research.
