Roy Chris Ruedy, 85, Bethany, OK
Roy was born to parents, Nadine and Dewey Ruedy, of Oklahoma City.
He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1954 with a Bachelors Degree in Education with an emphasis on Industrial Arts Education. Roy was an athlete lettering in track. He was the Missouri Valley Conference Champion in the hurdles and inducted into the OSU Track Hall of Fame. Roy was a member of the Letterman O-Club and a founding member of the OSU Posse Club. He also participated in the Army ROTC, subsequently serving active duty earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant and an Honorable Discharge June 27, 1962.
Roy served as owner and operator of Ruedys Auto Shop in Oklahoma City until his retirement in 1993.
Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman and member of the Sportsman Country Club in OKC, OK. He believed in preserving the history of the automobile and was a member of the Sooner Horseless Carriage Club of Oklahoma. Roy enjoyed his koi pond and was a member of the Water Garden Society of Oklahoma.
Roys community service included serving for a period of time as a member of the Bethany City Planning Commission. He was devoted to his church, serving in many leadership roles which included Elder, Board Member, and Property Chairman. Roy was a charter member of Northwest Christian Church of OKC and most recently attended Western Oaks Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirlee Ruedy; sister, Jeanie Ruedy; children, Christine Nickel and husband T.J., Sheryl Baisden and husband David, Bill Ruedy and wife LaVon, David Ruedy and wife Janita, and Tom Ruedy and wife Jana; grandchildren, Crystal Denker and husband Aaron, Lisa Nickel, Tracie Nix and husband Mike, Kayla Nickel, Jennifer Dungy and husband Dan, Brent Baisden and wife Jennifer, Lance Baisden and wife Bethani, Kyle Baisden and wife Christina, Chaz Baisden, Sean Baisden, Asia Baisden, Melissa Ruedy, Beverly Ruedy, Teresa Pankratz and husband Daniel, Zach Ruedy and wife Beth, and Wes Ruedy; great-grandchildren, Grant Denker, Sydney Denker, Braden Dungy, Jack Dungy, Brinlee Dungy, Emily Dungy, Brookelyn Baisden, Hadlie Baisden, Brody Baisden, Emma Baisden, Abigail Baisden, Annabelle Baisden, and Georgia Baisden.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William Ruedy and Bobby Ruedy.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 26, 2016, from 9am to 9pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK 73008.
Services will be Wednesday, July 27, 2016, 10am at Western Oaks Christian Church, 8100 NW 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73127.
In lieu of flowers, Roy requested donations be made to Western Oaks Christian Church.
