Roy Glen McKinney, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and loyal friend, passed away at the age of 69 on Friday, May 17, after a long battle with colorectal cancer.
Roy was born on January 13th, 1950, in Sherman, TX, to Russell and Wilma (Woodby) McKinney. He received his BS degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. After college Roy lived and worked in Sherman, TX and raised his two sons before moving to Houston, Texas, where friends introduced him to the love of his life, Karen Overholt. He quickly relocated to Dallas so Karen and he could build on their relationship. On August 24th, 1981, he married Karen, and what partners they were for 38 years. Karen followed his career moves to Shreveport, LA, and back to Dallas. He followed her career move to Oklahoma City where they have resided for the last 18 years.
Roy and Karen did everything together: buying and selling houses, managing rental properties, raising great kids and helping out with wonderful grandkids. Karen always came up with new ideas to restore or refurbish something she bought at an auction or a garage sale and Roy was game to try anything. He wasnt the handiest of men but together they would make it work. There were more flops than successes, but the fun was in the trying it together.
Roy worked in the trucking and freight business for Yellow Freight and retired after 30 years. After retiring, Roy could not sit still so he became a realtor for Berkshire Hathaway. He was an active member of New Church where he loved being part of the Saturday morning Men's Breakfast Study and meeting with his Sunday School Group. Roy loved all his Texas Holdem Poker buddies, and there were many. He also loved cheering on the Houston Astros. But most of all, he loved to spend time with his daughters. Whether it was following them through years of softball practices and games or helping them with their LuLaRoe business, he loved being mentor, coach, advisor, and even financier, but most of all he loved being their Dad and their childrens Papa.
Roy was preceded in death by his father and mother, his son, Chad McKinney, and his grandson, Robert Revillas, III. He is survived by his wife Karen, his son, Ronald McKinney of Dallas, TX, daughters, Valerie Revillas (Robert) and Marcie Hatley (Rick), both of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by his brothers, Dewey McKinney (Kay) of Longview, TX, Steve McKinney (Mary Jane) of Kerrville, TX, Charlie McKinney (Denee) of Houston, TX, and Carl McKinney (Lisa) of Portland, TN, and his sisters, Linda LaSalle (Mickey) of Shepherd, TX, Debbie Waddell (Aubrey) of Maryville, TN, and many, many nieces and nephews. He was also proud Papa to his four precious granddaughters, Brianna Revillas, Addisyn Hatley, Danielle Revillas and Raelyn Hatley.
